TroGroup acquires Luxinar – a leading manufacturer of laser sources in the UK

TroGroup, a globally operating family-owned company based in Austria, announces the acquisition of Luxinar Ltd., a leading manufacturer of laser sources based in Hull, United Kingdom, with approximately 200 employees. With this acquisition, TroGroup further expands its technological leadership in the field of laser sources within its newest division, Iradion Laser.

Wels, 24th July 2024.

"Alongside our two divisions, Trodat in the field of stamp production and Trotec in the field of laser plotters for engraving, cutting, and marking, our third division, Iradion, is now becoming a strong third pillar of TroGroup with the acquisition of Luxinar. We are investing specifically in this area because we see great growth opportunities here," says TroGroup CEO Bernd Badurek. Effective immediately, Iradion can offer its customers a complete product portfolio in the field of CO2 laser sources, encompassing a variety of lasers with different technologies, power levels, wavelengths, and pulse durations.

Luxinar in Hull, United Kingdom, is a leading manufacturer of laser sources with power levels up to 1,000 watts and has been active in this laser technology for over 25 years. Recently, the product range has been expanded to include femtosecond laser sources. With sales subsidiaries in five countries (Germany, Italy, USA, China, South Korea) and a global dealer network, Luxinar serves customers in the semiconductor industry, electronics manufacturing, packaging and textile industries, automotive industry, medical technology, and many other industrial sectors. To date, more than 25,000 lasers have been installed in various industrial markets worldwide. The company recently achieved a turnover of approximately 40 million euros and employed around 200 staff at six locations worldwide.

Consistent growth path in the laser sources sector

With the acquisition of Iradion Laser Inc. in the USA, TroGroup began building its own business sector for laser sources a decade ago. In 2022, the acquisition of the German laser source manufacturer InnoLas Photonics followed. At the beginning of 2023, the laser sources business was organizationally separated from its sister company Trotec and has since operated under the name Iradion as the third division in the market. In the 2023 fiscal year, Iradion achieved a turnover of nearly 25 million euros and employed 85 staff worldwide. With the acquisition of Luxinar, the division significantly increases its revenue and workforce. The product range is being expanded to a broader base in a future-oriented high-tech sector. The laser sources now included in Iradion's portfolio enable applications such as marking, engraving, cutting, drilling, and joining on a variety of materials including technical ceramics, glass, textiles, paper, metal, plastic, and rubber.

In addition to Europe, Iradion CEO Andreas Penz sees China and the USA as key growth markets for laser sources. "Luxinar has been less represented in the USA so far. With Iradion's existing infrastructure, we can now significantly expand our global business and further drive the development of new specialized devices. Even without Luxinar, we already have an impressive installed base of 35,000 laser sources worldwide and supply our sister company Trotec with laser sources," says Penz, who has also been appointed Managing Director of Luxinar in addition to his role as CEO of Iradion. "We will now leverage the synergies within TroGroup that arise from the acquisition to relentlessly pursue our goal of global market and technological leadership in laser sources," adds TroGroup CEO Bernd Badurek, warmly welcoming the 200 new employees to the corporate group.
